teardrops slowly fall onto her keyboard
the feeling of isolation is almost too much to bear
while others find solace in the club scene downtown
she finds it through the glow of the screen
the sound of the music makes her feel a little less alone
melancholy feelings seem to fade
the soothing chords fill up her head like a symphony
that uneasy feeling begins to dissipate
all alone in her room as her humdrum life ticks by
the music, it makes her feel alive
Throughout the experience creating these for my multimodal creative projects I went two different routes. The first route was the poem. Through the poem, I wanted to emulate the feelings of isolation that many of the artists may have felt as well as the feeling of solace they find in the music. I think I touched on that a lot in my essay, the way the artists felt isolated and music was their outlet. I’m extremely happy with the poem. I feel the poem represents my writing because that’s the feeling that made me begin to write the essay and why I was so enamored with the artists. For the second piece, I tried to make it like a poster for an event that’s coming up. Although my talents aren’t the best, I tried to include artists that were not in my essay to demonstrate how many artists there are in the LGBTQ+ community. I wanted to capture the diversity of the community which is why I included a trans woman and a gay person of color. I feel diversity is important in the capturing of the essence of the LGBTQ+ community. I know that all three of these people have extremely different experiences but they all have things in common that link them together. That’s something I wanted to capture in my essay and both pieces. The sense of community. I think my passion shows and I’m very excited for the presentation on 11/30. I feel like passion is the number one thing for art (which writing is!).
